Project title: QFoundry (Quantum Foundry)
Project value: £5,777,425
Project partners: Compound Semiconductor Centre (CSC), Amethyst Research, Bay Photonics, Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, CSconnected, Cardiff University, Integrated Compound Semiconductors (ICS), IQE, Microchip Technology Caldicot, National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Toshiba Europe, National Epitaxy Facility, University of Cambridge, University of Sheffield
Project summary:
The CSC is leading Quantum Foundry (QFoundry), a three-year, £5.7 million project that is part-funded by the UK Quantum Technologies Challenge, via UK Research and Innovation. The project aims to deliver a national open-access quantum semiconductor device manufacturing facilities and create the foundations for robust, scalable component manufacture in the UK to enable the scaling of a quantum technology system industry. Initial projects for the foundry model include Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) for commercial grade atomic clocks and atomic magnetometers, and single-photon emitters and detectors for quantum communications, computing, imaging and sensing applications.
